Hopewell Rocks

Hopewell Rocks is a provincial park located about 1/2 hour from Moncton, New Brunswick. The park is situated at the end of the Petitcodiac River as it meets with the Bay of Fundy. The latter is famous for having the highest tide fluctuations in the world of up to 40 feet allowing you to walk…

The Eastern Townships, or in French Les Cantons de L’Est, is about one hour south of Montreal and features a rich history starting with the Abenaki First Nations who first settled the region (witness the toponymy such as the Massawippi River and Lake Memphremagog). Eventually the Europeans arrived, first the French and then British Loyalists…

Parc Riviere Doncaster

My favorites are the trails that follow the contours of the river, giving plenty of photographic compositions. The park includes a none too strenuous climb to a lookout, just for a change.…

Baie Saint Paul Marking the start of the Charlevoix region, the charming village of Baie Saint Paul is a popular destination for tourists. The main street is lined with galleries featuring local artists, and numerous restaurants featuring local produce. We arrived at the village mid-afternoon after having hiked in Cap Tourmente all morning, and we…

Quebec City and Charlevoix

Keeping travel local this year, given the uncertain state of the COVID-19 pandemic and various international travel restrictions, we decided to explore our own back yard and am I ever glad we did. This six day trip would encompass Quebec City for a day, and then travel north to La Malbaie in the heart of…

Dorwin Falls

Where the Canadian Shield, that vast area of rolling hills and thousands of lakes, bogs and rivers and which covers most of Quebec and Ontario, meets the St. Lawrence Valley is a transition from the Boreal Forest to a river flood plain. That change in geology and elevation is littered with hundreds of water falls,…

About Me

Welcome to my blog, I’m Philip, a novice to amateur photography who loves travel and practice landscape photography. I have just returned to photography after many years and am joining the digital revolution. Even though I was well versed in the principles of photography, I have had to re-learn a great deal about the techniques. That, and the fact that I was only okay at taking a picture, but with the digital revolution that process of learning is thousands of times faster.
