A Photographer’s Walk Through Gamla Stan During Midsummer’s Eve

Stockholm’s Old Town – Gamla Stan

This is my curated portfolio of favorite images captured in Stockholm’s historic Gamla Stan during Midsummer’s Eve, where medieval streets, long northern golden hour, and urban texture come together.

I was recently invited to visit Stockholm during Midsummer’s Eve, Sweden’s celebration of the summer solstice, and I immediately knew where I wanted to focus my camera: Gamla Stan, the city’s historic old town. With its medieval alleyways, cobbled streets, and colorful 17th-century façades, Gamla Stan offered a welcome shift from the natural landscapes I usually photograph. This post brings together a selection of my favorite images from the trip, along with a few reflections and practical tips for photographers planning their own Scandinavian excursion. I had the opportunity to visit Stockholm during the Summer solstice and immensely enjoyed exploring the Old Town - or Gamla Stan - during my time there. It was hot, hitting a high of 42 degrees that day. I have two versions of the same shot, but can't decide which one I like better. Located in Ithaca, NY the falls are an easy walk from the street and very impressive. Worth checking out. It is literally minutes from The Commons and connects downtown Ithaca with Cornell University, making it a well trafficked trail Gorgeous cascades and stone bridges are just some of the features. The trail itself is about 2.5km with a healthy 140m elevation gain. Long, narrow lakes, steep gorges, layered rock walls, and shaded trails combine to create scenes that feel cinematic even before you raise the camera.
