La Bella Vita – Italy

The Arno River in Florence – the flowing water was just so calm and reflective – that together with the clouds. Amazingly taken with an iPhone 6.

What is it about Italy that makes it the must-go destination for so many travellers. Over the decades they have constructed a mythology about the culture, food, and history that cannot be denied. And it isn’t just recently – look at the Roman ruins, not to mention the seat of Roman Catholic power, the Vatican…. the list goes on; Italy has been in our imagination for centuries.

The Duomo and bell tower in Florence, which took hundreds of years to complete. As did the Duomo in Milano, but as you can see a completely different style. Then some views from Volterra, a town perched on a steep sided hill which made for a naturally defensive position.

Cinque Terre – The Five Lands

A couple hours east of Milano is a remote and hilly region called Cinque Terre – the five lands. Named for the five towns hugging the coastline. Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore the region is a hikers paradise. What can be better than challenging and scenic hiking during the day, followed by a delicious Italien meal for dinner.
